My Daughter Turns 6 -- In Theory

Dearest Lucy,

Happy 6th birthday. What a big girl you would be.

We love your sister as much as we love you...with all our liver and lungs.

It thrills me to see Zoe and Peter together, like nothing I have ever known. I can't imagine how much more beautiful it would be with you here as well...my crowning jewel.

You are not forgotten. I will continue to miss you and love you for as long as I live, just as I continue to learn from you everyday. You make our family special and unique.

Yesterday, on your actual birthday, I didn't shower, I didn't get out of my pajamas, I changed at least 8 poopy diapers and snuggled your sister all day long.

I did hang the birthday banner for you, but at some point in the day the thought crossed my mind, "What if I'm not doing enough to celebrate Lucy's birthday." That's when I got a very distinct impression from you:

"You are doing exactly what you should be doing. Loving and taking care of my sister and brother is exactly what I want on my birthday."

I felt honored and loved and so proud to be a mother when I felt those words.

Happy Heavenly Birthday to my firstborn child. You have made me more than I ever thought I could be. One day at a time. One day at a time.

With love and hope and happiness,

Your Mother

  5. Happy Birthday Sweet Angel!

I know Lucy feels your love every second of every day and I too am sure she loves to watch you taking care of her precious brother and sister. She is in good hands, while she waits to hold yours again, and until then I know is thrilled to see the smiles, hear the laughter and feel the love you have all around you.
    Love and hugs, Emma

What a wonderful way to honor her on her birthday - taking care of her little sister and brother. What a dear child she is and what an amazing and beautiful post.

  13. Molly, that impression was absolutely Lucy! Never doubt that. How amazing...she is right here with us all the time (when she's not busy building the kingdom). I love each one of you so very much, and I can't wait to be face-to-face with sweet Lucy one day. I'm going to smoother her with hugs and kisses, as if she were my own. Liver and lungs, I tell you.

  20. Happy Birthday, Lucy!

My daughter would be 7 this year. Birthdays are hard, aren't they, when our little ones are not here...

But I'm very glad you have Lucy's siblings there with you, to bring you joy. I know you will never forget your firstborn. ((hugs))

  21. We remembered Lucy's birthday (I really wanted to make cupcakes which did not happen. We did have cookies). I have been looking at Luke- 6 years old- and thinking and wondering what Lucy would look like and be like and be interested in now. Luke took off the training wheels himself the other day and just started riding around. All by himself. And he is afraid of elevators all of the sudden. He is no longer interested in trains but very interested in cars. So many changes going on. So I keep thinking... what would a 6 year old Lucy be like?
