I've Never Asked for Comments Before...

By Molly Bice-Jackson - 10:50 AM

(30 Days of Thanks #12)

But after compiling this blog, I am begging you...

As per the request of my sister in-law, and a few adoring fans (nosy friends), I am finally posting photos of my home, which I am very grateful for. And to be honest, this post feels more intimate and revealing than all my posts about my grief, my Lucy, my loss, my feelings, my hurt, my heart, my everything inside. So this is a leap of faith for me and I will admit to being worried about being judged (for whatever reason). But in usual Molly fashion, I am sharing. I can't help it. It is how I am.

Putting this together was a doozie. But not as bad as the back breaking, stressful, transforming work that actually went into these pictures. (80% done by our guardian angel, John Flint). I will never do a major overhaul on a house again. I will never move again unless someone is doing it for me. By some standards, my house is mediocre. Boy does my perspective get warped when I spend time in some of the lodges/resorts/mansions in Park City. By other standards, it is beautiful. Either way, it is mine, and I'm glad the drama of purchasing it is over, things are smoothing over with the neighbors, most of what was broken is now fixed, and I'm enjoying having such a nice place to raise my family. I was going to wait until we had the basement furnished to post these, but what the hey. This house is definitely a blessing in our lives and I'm proud to say I do a pretty darn good job of keeping it clean.

May I present: the before and after shots. I wish I had a better camera...

  2. I love the green & silver in the kitchen!!! And well the white cabinets & dark flooring, so basically I love what you did with the kitchen!!!

And I love how you used the green as an accent in the fireplace room!

    Looks great!!

  3. Wow Molly! You've really transformed the place! I love all your color choices. You really are talented at decorating. It made me tired just reading about everything you've done to your house. I was so glad I wasn't the only one at PJs and Pancakes with bed head. Thank you! Thank you!

  4. Thanks for indulging me. Why you guys didn't stick with the blue and orange walls in Peter's room is beyond me. (Who would pick those two to stripe with?)

I really like your paint choices. Ohh, and I really like the backsplash in the kitchen, the blue and brown scheme in the guest(?) bedroom (and the cool tree!), and all the new furniture , I'm guessing that's the furniture you told me about you got from someone?

It looks great! And might I add you guys are fast! It takes some people MONTHS AND MONTHS to get a whole house finished. Way to go!

I totally know what you mean by it being so much work to do. So glad you're done, and in a house with room to grow!

  5. Kristyn, The blue and brown room is our master bedroom. I didn't include our master bathroom before and after shots. It is 'almost' done and my least favorite room in the house. The guest room is the one with the maroon bedspread and big black trunk at the foot of the bed.

Yes, the blue and orange was...bright.

Its not decorated entirely "me" and my dream style...but my wardrobe isn't entirely 'me' either...if only money grew on trees, eh?

  6. Yet, another talent! It's amazing. It looks like it has alot of character.

  7. Molly,
You have a truly beautiful home! I love the high ceilings and all the huge windows the openess is wonderful. I'd love to have something like that some day. I adore the little touches of Lucy, they are so touching. I hope one day when we get moved and are all in one house instead of trying to sell this one and move to Utah that we're able to decorate with things to remember Gabie with. I've never had pictures of a remodel touch my heart so much. You have amazing taste, thank you for sharing.

  8. It all looks great! I love your living room, especially that rug. Yummy colors. Someday when Wade is done with dental school I'll finally be able to decorate a place we can call "home." The views of the trees from your windows makes me miss Park City and anxious to come home for Christmas in just a few short weeks! :)

  10. However, we should not be defined by our homes.

  11. It all looks so great!! My favorite photo though is of Peter sitting and eating while watching something on the computer. So classic of a mother trying to get a few minutes so she can get something done. Oh how I relate!
Doing stuff around a house always takes soooo much time and money. I do wish money grew on trees.
Your house is beautiful and you should be proud to show it off.

  12. I *love* your paint choices! (Care to share the names??) :)

And your kitchen is so pretty...just my style. And the windows...the WINDOWS!!! Lovely.

Thanks for sharing...its always fun to see other people's homes.

  14. You have inspired me. I moved into a new home 14 months ago and I think I've hammered less than 20 nails in the wall (some of my things required more than 1 nail, so... not 20 things hung on the walls). I love what you did with your kitchen. Did you paint the existing cabinets? I've always loved white cabinets. I love all of your windows. Great job! Thanks for sharing. I love HGTV... your post was like watching a makeover show on that channel... only I could enjoy looking at the pictures at my speed :-)

  21. What's there to judge? It's all beautiful. To tell you the truth, I'd be happy if my house looked like your "before." :) My kitchen is the same color as yours.

  35. #1- love LOVE your shower curtain!

#2- bravo for bearing your inner soul (aka your home) for the world to see

#3- I love that refer to yourself as McButta. (not in this post, but a previous one. I laughed reading the photo caption. and then I had to say outloud, Molly McButter)

#4- I met someone this week who very recently lost her father. We were headed on a 1st grade field trip to see a play at the high school. (Peter Pan no less!) Her dad was the janitor at the high school and this was the 1st time she'd been back since he passed away. She apologized to the other moms for not being able to keep it together and for continuing to talk about him. I told her that I follow your blog and although every one grieves differently, I know that for you, talking and sharing is a MAJOR part of the process and that she shouldn't apologize. I also told her about your good grief website and all the things you've been able to do to keep Lucy a tangible part of your family, (the family photos of shoes, the Lucy tree, pictures in your house, etc) Anyway, she was glad I shared your story with her. I wanted her to know that she is not alone. So thank you for sharing so much, its helping people you've never even met. :)

  36. Your whole home is so gorgeous, Molly! You and Vic did an excellent job picking colors and decorating! How lucky you are to have such a spacious home, but more importantly, a home to call your own; I hope I can have one someday, but for now the hubby and I are stuck in that stage of our lives together where we move every couple of years from apartment to apartment as we finish off school, internships, etc..."Someday," we keep telling ourselves, someday we will be able to have a more permanent resting place, but for now we make each temporary place our santuary as best as possible.

PS: lovin the picture of your little one in the kitchen sippin on his cereal bowl!! Can he be any cuter? I don't think so!
