Lucy my dear, my princess, my baby

President Spencer W. Kimball: ” “No pain that we suffer, no trial that we experience is wasted. It ministers to our education, to the development of such qualities as patience, faith, fortitude and humility. All that we suffer and all that we endure, especially when we endure it patiently, builds up our characters, purifies our hearts, expands our souls, and makes us more tender and charitable, more worthy to be called the children of God … and it is through sorrow and suffering, toil and tribulation, that we gain the education that we came here to acquire and which will make us more like our Father and Mother in heaven.”

“Ye cannot behold with your natural eyes, for the present time, the design of your God concerning those things which shall come hereafter, and the glory which shall follow after much tribulation. For after much tribulation come the blessings. Wherefore the day cometh that ye shall be crowned with much glory; the hour is not yet, but is nigh at hand.” Doctrine & Covenants Section 58

Whenever I hear the song of a bird
Or look at the blue, blue sky
Whenever I feel the rain on my face
Or the wind as it rushes by
Whenever I touch a velvet rose
Or walk by a lilac tree
I'm glad that I live in this beautiful world
Heavenly Father created for me.

He gave me my eyes that I might see
The color of butterfly wings
He gave me my ears that I might hear
the magical sound of things
He gave me my life, my mind, my heart
I thank Him revrently
For all His creations of which I'm a part
Yes, I know Heavenly Father loves me.

Whenever I see flowing blonde hair
Tied up with a pretty pink bow,
Whenever I hear the squeal of a child
Making angels outside in the snow,
Whenever I watch the unsteady walk
Of a toddler just starting to roam,
I'm glad our sweet Lucy has brought so much joy,
And is waiting to welcome us home.

-Third verse by Russell Bice, Lucy's Poppa

  2. You don't know me... I found your blog through a friend of a friend and when I started reading it I realized I had already prayed for your family. My niece was in the PICU at the same time your Lucy was and I remember my sister in law telling us about her. She said she would watch your family walk by in obvious agony and she felt devastated by your situation. I am so sorry for the loss of your precious baby girl. I have 3 baby girls of my own and I can not imagine the pain you are going through. Thank you for this beautiful post especially the quote by President Kimble. It is comforting to know that we can grow from our trials and suffering. May the comforter dwell in your hearts and home during this difficult time.

  22. What a sweet baby girl. NOTHING sweeter.

  23. Molly and Vic - I am a good friend of Joy's in NM and I just wanted to say I am so sorry for your loss. My heart breaks for you. But I am so glad to have the gospel and know that Lucy is not gone for good, just for now, and that you all will be together again someday. She is a beautiful girl, with a wonderful spirit, and quite a little character, judging by the video! I sobbed thru the tribute as I held my daughters. I will continue to pray for you and your family. You are amazing and strong and I hope you know that you are loved by many, even those you may have never met!

  24. That video was breathtaking. Absolutely the most precious thing I have ever seen. What a beautiful, beautiful child you have. Thanks for sharing this experience with us all on here...I am amazed at how connected we can all be via internet. You have so much courage, Molly, you continue to inspire me every day. Sometimes we have to learn lessons through others trials, and I hope you know how much people are learning from your faith and testimony everyday. You are a gift to many of us who are thinking of you always. I hope the sun has shone for you this week.

  33. Molly- You were my visiting teaching message this month. The quote you shared was from this months lesson and I couldn't help but think of you and your little family. You continue to amaze me with the way you are handling this enormous challenge. I pray for you and Vic. Thank you for not closing up but for sharing and for letting the rest of us grow from knowing you.

  34. Hi Vic and MOlly. You don't know me, well that well, I met Vic a couple of times at Jackson's home. I am Paul's friend, Lori Nemelka. This story has just broken my heart!!!

I sat and cried the entire time watching the sweet video of your angel Lucy. She is precious. I just want you to know other's thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathies are with you at this time.

    Love, Lori

  35. I don't know you, but I am so sorry! I just had a little cousin die. I know how hard it must be for you. I will keep you in my prayers. Just remember that you still had a blessing come to you. At least you still got to see her and love her and talk to her. My cousin was born dead, so we never got to see her grow up. I am so scared of gravesites, but I went to hers the other day, and it was the most peaceful feeling I have ever felt. When I got back to my aunts house I got to see the baby's bedroom. I felt so close to her, that I saw her spirit laying in her crib. I think that it would be so cool if you went in Lucy's room every night and had a family prayer with her. I don't know if I am giving you good advice, because I am only thirteen. I feel so bad for you. If you need to talk, you can e-mail me. My e-mail address is

  36. What a wonderful thing the internet is. I am a typical mom of three, living in Las Vegas and someone referred me to your blog. I should be cooking dinner for my family, but instead I am sitting in front of the computer, crying my eyes out! What a beautiful baby girl you have! The picture that touched me the most was Mom and daughter, running through the grass holding hands.. and the sweet comment from Daddy in the video that said, "Daddy is so proud of you." What wonderful parents you both are. You have inspired me to be a better mom and to appreciate the little things (even spilled baby powder all over the crib!) Thank you for sharing your story and for being so eloquent (and open) with your words. I am praying for you and your family to continue feeling the peace and Joy that comes from the knowledge that families ARE forever.
